A TWO-STOREY concrete home that for more than 40 years stood solid along 57 Sahadath Road in Princes Town crumbled yesterday, collapsing into a worsening landslip that devoured at least two homes in the area over the past few years.
Forty-seven-year-old Taradath Bridgemohan says he is fortunate that his wife, three children and two brothers, with whom he had previously shared the home, were not occupying the structure when it collapsed. The family was last November evacuated from their temporary home in which they had sought shelter after their own nearby houses were taken by the slippage.
But yesterday, as adverse weather saw the home built by their elderly parents caving into itself, Bridgemohan said they had grown frustrated, with what he felt was a lack of responsibility and aid from relevant bodies.
