A mishap last Friday along the Upper Berbice River in the vicinity of Jeep Landing, Kwakwani Village has led to the death of 60-year-old boat Captain Alvin Adams from New Amsterdam, Berbice.
Police stated that on the day in question, a barge used for the transportation of timber was reportedly drifting downstream due to the strong river current when a tugboat went to render assistance.
As the tugboat approached the drifting barge, the two vessels collided. Due to the collision, Adams, who was on the tugboat at the time, became trapped between the two vessels and sustained severe injuries.
