Kaieteur News – The captain of the ill-fated MV Barima and two other senior crew members were on Tuesday jointly charged with murder over the ferry disaster that claimed more than 100 lives off the Essequibo coast. The trio was hauled before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where they were remanded to prison pending the start of legal proceedings.

Charged are Captain Kevin Price, called “KP”, 40, of Melanie Damishana, East Coast Demerara; Chief Mate Rondell Dwayne Roberts, 42, of Meadow Grove Public Road, East Bank Demerara; and Goods Superintendent Delon Granderson, 33, of Fellowship, West Coast Demerara. The indictable charge was read by Chief Magistrate Judy Latchman, who remanded all three men to prison. The matter was transferred to the Charity Magistrate’s Court and adjourned to August 3, 2026.

Meanwhile, in a press release police said following legal advice obtained from the Director of Public Prosecutions the three employees attached to the Transport and Harbour Department were charged with the offence of Murder, contrary to common law, in relation to the tragic deaths of passengers who were on board the MV Barima.
