THE Maternity Act will soon be amended to benefit fathers and guardians and provide benefits for women who become pregnant twice in one year. So said Labour Minister Leroy Baptiste yesterday during a United National Congress (UNC) news conference at the party’s Chaguanas headquarters.
Saying he was in a “celebratory mood,” Baptiste said: “I am here to speak about the modernisation of labour legislation. I am happy to announce the Government has improved two pieces of legislation — Maternity Protection Act and Retrenchment and Severance Benefit Act.”
With regard to the Maternity Protection Act, the Labour Minister said Government would have recognised certain lacunas and therefore amended the pieces of legislation.
