Paediatrician urges proactive strategy to tackle childhood obesity

Consultant Paediatrician and Paediatric Endocrinologist, Dr Leslie Gabay, is championing a proactive national response to combat childhood obesity.

He said that addressing this challenge early unlocks immense potential for children's physical health, classroom learning, social development, and lifelong well-being.

Addressing a recent JIS Think Tank, Dr Gabay, who is the former president of the Paediatric Association of Jamaica, noted that healthcare providers are seeing increasing numbers of adolescents with prediabetes and Type 2 diabetes, conditions that were previously uncommon among children.
