‘Medz Boss’ seeks urgent bail after PDO revoked

Two days af­ter Home­land Se­cu­ri­ty Min­is­ter Roger Alexan­der re­voked the Pre­ven­tive De­ten­tion Or­der (PDO) is­sued against dance­hall artiste Joseph “Medz Boss” Ol­liviere on Au­gust 24, his at­tor­neys filed an ur­gent bail ap­pli­ca­tion in the Port-of-Spain High Court, along with a re­quest for an ex­pe­dit­ed hear­ing.

Al­though the PDO has been re­voked, Ol­liviere, of 18th Street, Beetham Gar­dens, re­mains in cus­tody on a charge of il­le­gal­ly ex­tract­ing elec­tric­i­ty.

Bail was de­nied at his last court ap­pear­ance on May 15, and he was re­mand­ed in­to cus­tody un­til No­vem­ber 13. How­ev­er, his at­tor­neys, Criston Williams and Se­le­na Mo­hammed, ar­gued that the re­vo­ca­tion of the PDO con­sti­tutes a ma­te­r­i­al change in cir­cum­stances that war­rants a fresh as­sess­ment of his el­i­gi­bil­i­ty for bail and the pro­por­tion­al­i­ty of his con­tin­ued de­ten­tion.
