The 2025 general elections in Trinidad and Tobago were conducted in a transparent, peaceful and credible manner, according to the preliminary findings of the CARICOM Election Observation Mission (CEOM), which concluded that the results “reflect the will of the electorate.”
The 12-member team, comprising nationals of eight CARICOM countries and supported by staff from the CARICOM Secretariat, arrived in Trinidad and Tobago on April 21 and will depart on April 30. The observers were deployed at the invitation of the Government, extended by letter on December 10, 2024, to monitor the conduct of the parliamentary elections held on April 28.
In a statement issued today, Chief of Mission Ian S. Hughes said the CEOM’s role was to provide an “independent, impartial and honest assessment of the electoral process,” taking into account any factor that could impact the transparency or credibility of the outcome.
