The Min­istry of Works and In­fra­struc­ture has con­firmed the oc­cur­rence of a land­slip along Fort George Road, St. James, near The Bat­tery. A sec­tion of the road­way has been af­fect­ed, and mo­torists and com­muters have been asked to ex­er­cise cau­tion when us­ing the route.

The Min­istry stat­ed that Fort George Road does not fall un­der its purview but is un­der the di­rect re­spon­si­bil­i­ty of the Port of Spain City Cor­po­ra­tion. De­spite this, the Min­istry in­di­cat­ed its will­ing­ness to pro­vide tech­ni­cal sup­port to as­sist the Cor­po­ra­tion in ad­dress­ing the sit­u­a­tion.

On Thurs­day, a team of tech­ni­cal ex­perts from the Min­istry vis­it­ed the site to con­duct a pre­lim­i­nary as­sess­ment of the slope fail­ure. The vis­it in­clud­ed dis­cus­sions on im­me­di­ate and in­ter­im mea­sures to safe­guard res­i­dents and road users. Op­tions for longer-term sta­bil­i­sa­tion works to re­store the road­way were al­so con­sid­ered.
