(Kaieteur News) – Since Guyana gained its independence in 1966, it has constantly grappled with electricity woes and although the nation now prides itself as the fastest growing economy in the world, government is yet to address the painful power problem.
These concerns were raised by the Leader of the Opposition, Azruddin Mohamed during a press conference on Monday. The leader stated that delays at the Gas-to-Energy (GTE) project at Wales have led the ruling party to turn to a Turkish company to rent electricity to meet the growing demands of the country.
Mohamed was concerned about the continuous delays and growing bill to complete the Wales project, raising questions about whether government officials are benefitting from the rental agreements with the Turkish firm.
