The United States military on Monday carried out a series of airstrikes that destroyed four vessels allegedly involved in narcotics trafficking in the eastern Pacific Ocean, killing 14 people and leaving one survivor, according to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
Hegseth, in a post on X, said the four boats were targeted in three separate strikes along known drug-smuggling routes. The deaths bring the toll in President Donald Trump’s escalating campaign against alleged traffickers in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific to more than 50.
“The four vessels were known by our intelligence apparatus, transiting along known narco-trafficking routes, and carrying narcotics,” Hegseth wrote. “A total of 14 narco-terrorists were killed during the three strikes, with one survivor. All strikes were in international waters with no U.S. forces harmed.”
