Scotland to media: Be cautious

PORT OF SPAIN South MP Keith Scotland is warning journalists to “be cautious” about the proposed Special Operations Bill, saying the legislation could leave them vulnerable to having their equipment searched and seized while covering operations in closed areas.

Scotland raised the concern at an Opposition People’s National Movement (PNM) news conference at Balisier House on Saturday, hosted by Diego Martin West MP Hans Des Vignes, where Opposition MPs criticised several provisions of the bill.

The Special Operations Bill, 2026, was passed in the House of Representatives close to midnight Friday with the Government’s simple majority.
