THE Government is advancing plans for a $460.6-million swine research facility at Bodles Research Station in St Catherine to help pig farmers lower production costs and make Jamaican pork more competitive.
The proposed facility would accommodate 150 sows and support research into breeding, nutrition and farming technologies, with the findings intended to benefit commercial producers.
Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining Franklyn Witter said the investment would address shortcomings in the country’s swine research infrastructure that have limited the pace of studies needed to improve the industry.
