Pres­i­dent Chris­tine Car­la Kan­ga­loo has ap­proved a sweep­ing re­as­sign­ment of min­is­te­r­i­al re­spon­si­bil­i­ties on the ad­vice of Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar, with ma­jor changes af­fect­ing the port­fo­lios for Home­land Se­cu­ri­ty and Pub­lic Util­i­ties.

Un­der the new arrange­ments, which took ef­fect on 3 Oc­to­ber 2025, the Min­is­ter of Home­land Se­cu­ri­ty, Roger Alexan­der, is now re­spon­si­ble for the Prison Sys­tem, while the Min­is­ter of Pub­lic Util­i­ties, Bar­ry Padarath, has been giv­en over­sight of Pow­er Gen­er­a­tion, in­clud­ing Trinidad Gen­er­a­tion Un­lim­it­ed (TGU) and POW­ER­GEN.

The changes were for­malised in Gazette No. 146 of 2025, pub­lished on Sat­ur­day, 4 Oc­to­ber, which al­so record­ed a wide-rang­ing reshuf­fle across mul­ti­ple min­istries. The re­as­sign­ment ex­er­cise was car­ried out un­der sec­tion 79(1) of the Con­sti­tu­tion of the Re­pub­lic of Trinidad and To­ba­go, grant­i­ng the Pres­i­dent au­thor­i­ty to as­sign min­is­te­r­i­al du­ties on the ad­vice of the Prime Min­is­ter.
