CARIBBEAN Airlines paid former chief executive officer Garvin Medera a $1.8 million (US$265,000) bonus this year, equal to his full base annual salary, despite the airline’s 2024 operating profit plummeting 51%.
The payment, approved in February by the board led by Shameer Ronnie Mohammed, followed earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) of US$12.1 million for the 2024 financial year, down sharply from a US$24.7 million operating profit in 2023.
Medera’s bonus came as the State-owned carrier struggled in the first half of 2025, recording a US$14.45 million loss despite US$22.18 million in taxpayer support, according to its latest financials.
