A 70-year-old Diego Mar­tin man fright­ened away a ban­dit who tried to rob him ear­ly on Tues­day morn­ing.

Po­lice said the man locked the doors and win­dows of his Gokool Street home at around 6 am be­fore go­ing out to run er­rands. He re­turned around 9 am and no­ticed two glass win­dow panes had been bro­ken and heard a com­mo­tion in­side the house.

The man called out to any­one in­side and or­dered them to come out, as a ban­dit was seen ex­it­ing the home hold­ing a ham­mer. He then picked up a pitch­fork and chased the ban­dit off his prop­er­ty, caus­ing him to drop the ham­mer.
