THE current state of emergency (SoE) has been linked to a reduction in murders and serious crimes and appears to be producing the best crime-fighting impact of the three emergency periods imposed in the country since 2024, according to a statistical analysis compiled by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS).
The report stated that SoEs worked best as targeted, intelligence- led, front-loaded, murder-suppression interventions, but that their effects diminished over time unless accompanied by sustained operational enforcement, post-SoE monitoring, and division-specific strategies.
It recommended pairing future SoEs with focused anti-gang operations, concentrated policing in highyield divisions, and continuous assessment mechanisms.
