Soca star Patrice Roberts has been ordered to pay slightly more than US$25,000 to a Canadian company after a court partially upheld a breach of contract claim relating to management services.
The judge ruled that the company was entitled to compensation for services rendered and advances made, but also determined that it must reimburse Roberts for digital music sales. This allowed the amounts to be offset, leaving Roberts to pay the balance.
Justice Mohammed said the matter underscores the importance of properly executed written contracts within the entertainment industry, particularly in management relationships.
