(Kaieteur News) – Leader of the Opposition Azruddin Mohamed has demanded the immediate resignation of President Irfaan Ali following disclosures regarding the head of state’s ownership of a massive livestock farm and private estate at Long Creek, along the Linden-Soesdyke Highway.
The resignation demand coincides with a formal intervention by anti-corruption watchdog Transparency International Guyana (TI Guyana). The body issued a statement on Tuesday calling for an independent international probe into the multi-billion-dollar facility over potential conflicts of interest, personal enrichment, and breaches of public integrity.
Responding to the mounting criticism, President Ali stated in a statement shared on his Facebook page “As required by law, the president has made the appropriate declarations to the Integrity Commission. The acquisition of his assets and the source of the funds used to acquire them are capable of verification through the relevant financial and regulatory records.”
