Chief Magistrate orders witness to produce operational records

(Kaieteur News) – Chief Magistrate Judy Latchman on Friday ordered witness Prem Narine to present the operational records kept in the station diary at the Brickdam Police Station, when court proceedings resume on Monday.

The directive came during a line of cross-examination where defense counsel probed Narine regarding his activities, instructions, and documentation surrounding the investigation. Under questioning, Narine acknowledged visiting the attorney general’s chambers alongside Assistant Superintendent Sarabo, but repeatedly testified “I can’t recall” when pressed on whether he had signed security or visit logs, the exact person who instructed him to go, or whether those instructions came over the phone or in person.

Narine maintained that he visited the AG chambers around 09:30 hrs, though he conceded under cross-examination that it could have been earlier or later, while affirming it was not before 09:00 hrs because he made a reference entry in his diary. When asked where that reference was made, Narine stated he could not recall precisely where he recorded it, adding that such entries would only exist in a limited number of places, such as a pocket book, notebook, or personal diary, which are no longer available. He noted that intelligence personnel are not mandated to keep those personal records after a matter concludes, confirming they may have been disposed of.
