GPL rolls out monopole project amid modernisation of power grid

Several wooden poles connected to the National Grid’s substation are set to be removed and replaced with several monopoles as Guyana Power and Light (GPL) moves ahead with the modernisation of the country’s electricity infrastructure.

This was revealed by the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Strategic Operations at GPL Bharat Harjohn on Friday, who said the monopoles are already being installed as the utility moves swiftly ahead with modernising the sector.

“The monopoles are already [being] setup, and it will interconnect with the new substation in Chateau Margot. It will also interconnect with the substation in Good Hope, which we are expanding, and it will interconnect with the substation in Enmore, and then go straight to Columbia, where we are upgrading that substation.”
