DEPUTY Police Commissioner Suzette Martin revealed last Friday that at least 30 people have been murdered since the Government declared another state of emergency (SoE) early last month, averaging at least one killing per day.
The dead include controversial businessman Danny Guerra, who was gunned down outside his business place in mid-March; a teenage boy shot alongside two young men inside the bedroom of a family apartment; a female cricketer stabbed to death in her home; and an 11-month-old baby killed as he slept beside his father.
Together, the killings form a daily pattern of violence, comprising shootings, beatings and targeted attacks that persist, even after Attorney General John Jeremie proclaimed that the Government was determined to “never allow this country to deteriorate into the taste of chaos and bloodshed which we met in May 2025 when we took office” when the SoE was first announced.
