Two occupants survived a van overturning after encountering a landslip yesterday morning along the roadway connecting Williamsville to the Torrib/Tabaquite Road.
The road, situated in a largely uninhabited area, is regularly used by motorists. Councillor for New Grant/Tableland, Gowrie Roopnarine, said that while there are approximately four landslips along the route, the one involved in the accident was newly formed. Bamboo had been erected at the site to warn motorists of the caved-in section.
Roopnarine added that the Minister of Works and Infrastructure had visited the area about two months ago. Officials from the ministry subsequently confirmed that measurements had been completed and funding was being awaited to implement repairs.
