WASH­ING­TON—Trinidad and To­ba­go Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar is among 12 world lead­ers con­firmed to at­tend Pres­i­dent Don­ald Trump’s Shield of the Amer­i­c­as Sum­mit in the city of Do­ral over the week­end, the White House con­firmed yes­ter­day.

In con­firm­ing the at­ten­dance of Per­sad-Bisses­sar and 11 oth­er Latin Amer­i­can lead­ers, White House press sec­re­tary Karo­line Leav­itt said the sum­mit’s goal is to pro­mote “free­dom, se­cu­ri­ty, and pros­per­i­ty in our re­gion.”

She said the coun­tries “have re­al­ly formed a his­toric coali­tion to work to­geth­er to ad­dress crim­i­nal nar­co-ter­ror­ist gangs and car­tels and counter il­le­gal and mass mi­gra­tion in­to not on­ly the Unit­ed States but the West­ern Hemi­sphere, which re­mains a key and top pri­or­i­ty of this pres­i­dent.”
