MinÂisÂter of EdÂuÂcaÂtion Dr Michael Dowlath has conÂdemned the shootÂing of a secÂondary school stuÂdent in MalÂoney as “deeply trouÂbling and wholÂly unÂacÂceptÂable”, as the 15-year-old reÂmains in critÂiÂcal conÂdiÂtion.
The Form Five pupil of AriÂma North SecÂondary School, idenÂtiÂfied as Zwade AlÂleyne, was shot in the head on SatÂurÂday night while soÂcialÂisÂing with friends outÂside BuildÂing 12 in East MalÂoney GarÂdens. AcÂcordÂing to poÂlice, sevÂerÂal armed men opened fire around 10:45pm, strikÂing the teenagÂer as he atÂtemptÂed to flee. The susÂpects fled the scene on foot.
ResÂiÂdents rushed AlÂleyne to the AriÂma GenÂerÂal HosÂpiÂtal. He was latÂer transÂferred to the ErÂic Williams MedÂical SciÂences ComÂplex and placed on life supÂport.
