Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has promised to redirect state resources towards productive economic activity and honest workers, declaring that her Government will no longer allow taxpayers to subsidise what she described as laziness, fraud and corruption.
In a statement posted on social media on Sunday, on the eve of the presentation of the 2027 national budget, Persad-Bissessar said her Government intended to “rebalance society” in favour of law-abiding, hard-working citizens.
“There will be better and brighter days ahead for all law-abiding citizens who study diligently, work honestly, make good choices, and live productive lives,” she said.
