(Kaieteur News) – President Irfaan Ali has reaffirmed his Government’s commitment to strengthening and modernising the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), while charging the military to remain professional, apolitical and firmly loyal to the Constitution.
In a message marking the Force’s 61st Anniversary, President Ali extended congratulations and appreciation to serving officers, ranks, reservists, civilian staff and veterans, recognising their contributions to safeguarding Guyana’s sovereignty and serving its people. The President noted that the GDF was established 61 years ago, even before Guyana attained Independence, with the primary responsibility of defending the country’s territorial integrity and serving its citizens.
For more than six decades, he said, the Force has discharged that responsibility with professionalism, loyalty and courage. Ali described the anniversary as a celebration of service, paying tribute to veterans who laid the foundation of the military, patrolled Guyana’s extensive frontiers under challenging conditions and defended the nation’s sovereignty.
