The Bog Walk Gorge in St Catherine on Tuesday was the scene of a deadly confrontation between lawmen and armed men.
The shooting left four men dead and one police officer nursing gunshot wounds. Commissioner of the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), Hugh Faulkner, told THE STAR that the circumstances surrounding the Gorge incident are still being ascertained.
“We are in the process of confirming the identities, so we are processing the bodies and firearms,” he said. According to reports, the injured men were transported to the Linstead Public Hospital, where they were pronounced dead. Two firearms were reportedly seized at that scene and the Linstead Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) is investigating. The shooting forced the closure of the major roadway, with motorists being advised to expect delays and use alternative routes. A senior officer told THE STAR that the injured policeman is in "serious but stable condition".
