“Tim must go!” was the chant yesterday as disgruntled workers attached to the North Central Regional Health Authority (NCRHA) staged a protest outside the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope, calling for the removal of NCRHA chairman Dr Tim Gopeesingh over several issues, including severe shortages of consumables.
Public Services Association (PSA) industrial relations officer Kesta Thomas said staff—including medical, technical, and auxiliary workers—have reached a breaking point after years of what she described as neglect and mismanagement. “We are here because I got a call that staff at the NCRHA are very disgruntled. They have been suffering for far too long,” Thomas said.
He outlined a range of problems affecting the hospital, describing many of them as “low-hanging fruit” that should have been resolved long ago. “There is a lack of consumables at the hospital. There are operational problems including elevators sticking, problems in the kitchen, missing basic items like cups, milk and baking supplies. These things have been nil for a long while,” he said.
