Residents of building #26 at Cypress Hills in Union Hall say for the past year maintenance works at the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) development have been halted, causing rodent infestations and health risks to those who have made their homes and built their lives within the 24-unit structure.

Some residents, who asked not to be named, told the Express over the last week that, despite paying a monthly maintenance fee of around $300 to the HDC, grass cutting, power washing and cleaning of the building have been discontinued. They said while they attempt to take care of their units to the best of their ability, many living within the building cannot afford the additional upkeep.

As a result, they said, overgrown grass, peeling paint, mossy staircases and broken tiles are only some of the issues they are forced to face.
