A six-unit townhouse complex in Belmont, Jerningham View apartments, is in danger of collapsing into the East Dry River due to a failing retaining wall, with the Port of Spain City Corporation saying it is unable to repair the wall due to budgetary constraints.
On Wednesday, Port of Spain Mayor Chinua Alleyne was joined by Belmont North/West councillor Malouia Bourne and alderman Wade Coker during a tour of the area, during which residents highlighted the problem.
“We applied for the allocation but we were drastically cut. So therefore, in terms of being drastically cut, we were unable to address this urgent situation here,” Bourne said.
