GGMC to crack down on unauthorised sale and transfer of mining lands

(Kaieteur News) – The Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) has put mining stakeholders and tenure holders on notice that it will be cracking down on the practice of selling, or purporting to sell, mining lands granted by the Commission.

In an advisory on Tuesday, GGMC stated that the issue is “seriously engaging the attention” of the Commission and urged all persons contemplating transactions involving mining lands to seek clarification from the Commission before entering into any agreement or making financial commitments.

The agency further underscored that persons should not rely solely on private agreements, powers of attorney, receipts, or other instruments as evidence that an individual has the legal right to sell, transfer, or otherwise dispose of a mining property.
