TRINIDAD and Tobago maritime law specialist Nyree Alfonso is one of five commissioners to be appointed today to serve on an independent international commission of enquiry established by the Guyanese government to investigate the sinking of the MV Barima, as officials seek answers into one of the country’s worst recent maritime tragedies.

Speaking with the Express yesterday, Alfonso said the commission’s primary objective was to determine exactly what led to the disaster and recommend measures to prevent a similar incident from occurring again.
