International relations expert Dr Andy Knight is warning that Trinidad and Tobago risks diplomatic fallout by “hitching its wagon” to a potentially “lame duck” United States President.
Speaking during a Movement for Social Justice (MSJ) Tuesday Talk event hosted by party leader David Abdulah, Knight argued that the country’s foreign policy direction under Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar could prove strategically risky if it remains closely aligned with US President Donald Trump.
Knight argued that political cycles in Washington were unpredictable and short-lived, warning that Caribbean governments must think beyond immediate alliances.
