The death of 16-year-old Altaf King following a police pursuit on the Corentyne has sparked anger and grief in his community, with residents demanding answers and questioning the conduct of the officer involved.
King, of Eliza Mary Race Course, Corentyne, Berbice, died on Thursday, June 25, 2026, after the motorcycle he was riding crashed into a utility pole on Princeton Access Road.
According to the Guyana Police Force, preliminary investigations indicate that King was riding motorcycle CL 5607 when he allegedly attempted to evade a police patrol, lost control of the motorcycle and collided with the pole. He was taken to the No. 75 Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
