Former attorney general Faris Al-Rawi has defended his handling of the extradition process for Jack Warner, insisting he followed legal advice and did nothing wrong, prompting a response from Warner, who has threatened legal action if Al-Rawi continues to comment publicly on the case.
At a news conference held at the Opposition Leader’s Office in Port of Spain yesterday, Al-Rawi addressed concerns surrounding the alleged “missing” agreement in Warner’s extradition request from the United States. Warner is facing multiple charges in the U.S., including racketeering, wire fraud, and money laundering, and has been fighting extradition in Trinidad and Tobago’s courts since 2015.
Al-Rawi said he was unaware of any such agreement being required and stated that all procedures followed during his tenure were consistent with decades of precedent established by former attorneys general.
