One of two men injured in a shootout with police in Arima died at hospital yesterday, while the second succumbed to his injuries around midday Tuesday. Their identities had not yet been confirmed by police.
According to reports, around 1:15 a.m., officers observed a Honda City being driven erratically in the Samaroo Village area of Arima. Checks with the operations centre revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen at gunpoint earlier that night in the Petit Valley area.
When officers attempted to intercept the vehicle, two occupants reportedly opened fire. Police returned fire, hitting two of the suspects, while a third man managed to escape.
