The MinÂistry of EdÂuÂcaÂtion has moved to clarÂiÂfy its poÂsiÂtion on stuÂdent hairÂstyles afÂter an imÂage, alÂlegedÂly from a secÂondary school, cirÂcuÂlatÂed wideÂly on soÂcial meÂdia outÂlinÂing strict groomÂing rules and showÂing exÂamÂples of hairÂstyles deÂscribed as ânot acÂceptÂedâ.
The imÂage, tiÂtled School Rules 2026, lists deÂtailed reÂstricÂtions on hair length and styles for feÂmale stuÂdents, inÂcludÂing limÂits on bun size and bans on cerÂtain natÂurÂal hairÂstyles.
In a stateÂment isÂsued in reÂsponse, the minÂistry said the NaÂtionÂal School Code of ConÂduct does not preÂscribe or proÂhibÂit speÂcifÂic hairÂstyles.
