THE National Council for Indian Culture (NCIC) has called for the Order of Trinidad and Tobago (ORTT) to be bestowed on late former independent senator Deoroop Teemal.

The request was made by NCIC vice-president Surujdeo Mangaroo as a “humble servant” of country and family was yesterday given a king’s send-off with Hindu rites ringing out from the Divali Nagar facility in Chaguanas. Following the service, a number of Teemal’s former parliamentary colleagues supported the call for the ORTT, calling him “­deserving”.

Teemal, who was also the former president of the NCIC, was celebrated with a service before being cremated at the Caroni Cremation Site under to Hindu rites.
