Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander is seeking the assistance of the United States Embassy to move on USâbased social media actors, some of whom have dual nationality and who he says are targeting Trinidad and Tobago by spreading propaganda and fear.
The Express yesterday obtained a copy of the letter, which is expected to be delivered early this week to the Embassyâs ChargĂ© dâAffaires, Dr Jenifer Neidhart de Ortiz, at her office in Port of Spain.
In it, Alexander writes that âin recent weeks, several individualsâholding dual nationality or US residencyâhave been using media platforms, social-media channels, and online ânewsâ programmes to disseminate defamatory, inflammatory, and intentionally misleading narratives about our joint mission and the ongoing security operations within Trinidad and Tobago. These individuals openly profit from sensationalism, distort the truth to generate viewership, and then retreat to cities such as Miami and other US locations while their manufactured narratives fuel tension, fear, and instability here at home.â
