THE reigning kings will face an old dynasty desperate to return to the throne room of top flight Jamaican football when two-time defending champions Cavalier take on Portmore United — a club quite accustomed to the grand stage that the National Stadium will present in their 8:00 pm kick-off in the Jamaica Premier League final.
In a true demonstration of championship mettl, both teams — unfancied in the build-up — overcame first-leg semi-final deficits to book their places in the title match as well as secure the bonus of qualifying for the Concacaf Caribbean Cup.
The clash pits Portmore United — the most successful team in the land with seven titles — against Cavalier, a historic club that has carried the standard for Jamaica in recent years, with Sunday’s contest being their fifth appearance in the final in six years, having won three of the last four to add to their other title success in the 1980-81 campaign.
