A 48-year-old doubles vendor, Kamnee Thakurdeen, has died after being shot at her Fire Station Road home in Couva on Tuesday night. A man has since been arrested after allegedly confessing to police that he falsely reported the incident as a robbery.
Police said the shooting occurred around 8:35 p.m. and first responders attached to the Couva CID arrived shortly after 9:10 p.m. They were met by a 45-year-old man who initially told officers that a criminal had entered the home through a side door, armed with a gun, and announced a holdup.
The man claimed he heard an explosion and found Thakurdeen unresponsive with a gunshot wound to her chest. Officers discovered a .38 revolver under her body, containing one live round and one spent shell.
