Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar says Trinidad and Tobago is mobilising immediate assistance to Jamaica, as that country braces for the impact of Hurricane Melissa, now a Category 5 storm and the strongest hurricane ever recorded to hit the island.
In a statement issued Monday, Persad-Bissessar said Trinidad and Tobago stands “resolutely with our Caribbean brothers and sisters” and will provide manpower, technical resources, emergency supplies, and foodstuffs to aid Jamaica’s relief and recovery efforts once the storm passes.
“This powerful storm poses a serious threat to life and livelihood, and our nation stands resolutely with our Caribbean brothers and sisters during this challenging time,” the Prime Minister said.
