WORKS and Infrastructure Minister Jearlean John spent Christmas morning in Piparo, visiting residents affected by ongoing seismic activity at the mud volcano.
On December 25, John shared a 45-second video on social media, showing her speaking to someone who was surprised to see her in the community on the holiday. In the video, John remarked, “Christmas is just another day when people are in crisis.”
She was accompanied by Ryan Rampersad, chairman of the Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation, and other officials. At least five homes were affected when the volcano rumbled on Wednesday, spewing hot mud and smoke into the air.
