Police Constable Aaron McClean, who was charged with misbehaviour in public office for allegedly removing a woman from the Besson Street Police Station while on duty in 2023, has been discharged by the High Court.
McClean, 41, appeared before Master Adia Mohammed on a single charge. The case was dismissed after the State failed to file an indictment or disclose evidence ahead of a sufficiency hearing scheduled for May. That hearing, which determines whether there is enough evidence to proceed to trial, was vacated and rescheduled for August 6. The State again failed to comply with the court’s disclosure orders, leading to McClean’s discharge. He was represented by attorney Terry Boyer.
The charge stemmed from an incident on July 8, 2023, at approximately 1.40 am, when a woman arrived at the Besson Street Police Station to file a report. According to police, she encountered two male officers at the reception area. One of the officers allegedly used an aggressive tone and told her to return later. The woman was then allegedly grabbed by the officer, who forcibly removed her from the station and onto the road.
