The Chinese Embassy in Guyana and the Education Ministry hosted the awards ceremony for the 5th China-Guyana Friendship Youth Leadership Development Competition, bringing together students, teachers, parents and education officials. The event, hosted last week, was attended by Chinese Ambassador to Guyana Yang Yang and Deputy Chief Education Officer (DCEO) Tiffany Harvey, attracted nearly 100 participants, including students who were recognised for their achievements in the competition. In congratulating the award winners, Ambassador Yang said young people have an important role to play in the future of China-Guyana relations.
She encouraged the students to view the competition as a starting point for further personal and professional development, urging them to set ambitious goals, strengthen their skills and become contributors to Guyana’s development. Yang also encouraged the students to serve as young ambassadors for friendship between China and Guyana. She said the Chinese Embassy would continue to create opportunities for young people from both countries to interact, learn about each other and strengthen people-to-people ties. The Ambassador also invited more Guyanese youth to visit China, saying such exchanges would allow them to experience the country and gain a broader understanding of its society and culture.
Harvey thanked China for its continued support for education and youth development in Guyana. She encouraged the award-winning students to continue setting positive examples among their peers and to contribute to Guyana’s development and the strengthening of China-Guyana relations. The ceremony also featured cultural performances and cultural experience activities involving students and teachers.
