Caribbean Airlines pilot Captain Daniel Kawall has been rescued by police after being kidnapped last week. He was found shortly before 11 a.m. on Sunday, following a joint effort by law enforcement, including the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU). One suspect was killed during the rescue operation.
Police confirmed that a ransom of TT$1 million had been demanded early Friday morning. Kawall, who lives in Valsayn North and owns a business in Piarco, was last seen on Wednesday. His vehicle, a Toyota Hilux, was reportedly seen in Cascade on Wednesday night, where residents heard screaming from inside.
Despite multiple calls to the Belmont Police Station, residents said officers failed to respond until community members escalated the issue through a WhatsApp group. By the time police arrived on Friday, the vehicle had been moved. It was later found burnt in Rousillac.
