Law Association defends Independents

THE Law Association of Trinidad and Tobago (LATT) has called on Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to withdraw what it described as “disparaging” remarks about Independent senators following their unanimous rejection of the Government’s Special Operations Bill.

In a news release yesterday, the LATT also urged Senate President Wade Mark to intervene to protect the dignity and reputation of the Upper House.

The association’s comments came days after all nine Independent senators last week voted against the Special Operations Bill, which seeks to establish policing districts and provide for special operations to combat criminality.
