HEALTH Minister Dr Lackram Bodoe said the Government has held emergency strategic meetings with regional and local health partners and implemented proactive measures in response to concerns surrounding the Ebola Bundibugyo Virus (BVD). He however added there would no suspension of flights from countries affected by the disease, A British Airways Flight 253 travelling from London to Grand Cayman was grounded in Nassau, Bahamas, on May 22, after two passengers exhibited fever symptoms following recent travel to the Democratic Republic of Congo, sparking fears of Ebola exposure.
On Saturday, Antigua and Barbuda's Prime Minister Gaston Browne said his Government was taking a 'very conservative position' on incoming flights from Nigeria as Antigua strengthened health screening measures amid heightened Ebola concerns in parts of Central and East Africa.
Browne said the Government had decided Antigua may not receive the first scheduled Air Peace flight from Lagos, with the aircraft instead likely travelling directly to Barbados before passengers destined for Antigua are transported onward by LIAT.
