(Kaieteur News) – Guyanese and visitors to Georgetown could be walking through a vastly transformed Botanical Gardens and Wildlife Sanctuary within the next three years, as Government pushes ahead with a major redevelopment of the historic facility.
The project, being undertaken through the Protected Areas Commission (PAC), is expected to turn the Gardens into a modern destination combining wildlife conservation, education, recreation and nature-based tourism while retaining much of its historic character.
Foreign Secretary and Chairman of the Protected Areas Commission, Robert Persaud, told the Department of Public Information (DPI) that the project is being advanced to deliver a facility that preserves the Gardens’ character while introducing experiences designed for future generations. “The vision is for the gardens to continue to be a place of connection, with new ways to experience nature in Georgetown.”
