A pris­on­er died at hos­pi­tal one day af­ter be­ing in­jured in an al­ter­ca­tion with prison of­fi­cers.

In a me­dia re­lease , the T&T Prison Ser­vice con­firmed that Aki­no Pur­cell died at the Ari­ma Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal on Sat­ur­day morn­ing.

The re­lease stat­ed that Pur­cell was tak­en to the Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex (EWM­SC) on Fri­day af­ter he at­tacked a group of prison of­fi­cers at the Max­i­mum Se­cu­ri­ty Prison and they re­spond­ed with “law­ful force”.
